The church of Christ is not a part of denominationalism. It is neither Protestant, Catholic nor Jew. It is comprised simply of individuals who have been born anew through obedience to the commands of Christ and his apostles (John 3:1-5; 1 Peter 1:23). It is the church Jesus said He would build (Matthew 16:18). It came into existence on the first Pentecost after the resurrection of Christ in the city of Jerusalem A.D. 33 (Acts 2). Christ is the head of His church (Ephesians 1:22-23; Colossians 1:18). A local congregation is scripturally called the church of Christ (Romans 16:16).
